If you want to increase the quality of you marriage, then it will take some work and time to be able to do it. It takes two to clap as they say, so your partner should be supportive and work together with you to make the marriage work. Marriage is for life and it is strange to many people do not put in enough effort to keep the relationship going.
Some people have the mistakan notion that just having love for each other will be enough to keep a marriage going strong. But as many married couples find out, it is not enough. There are other things to consider as well when both parties sign on that dotted line.
One of the ways that can instantly improve a marriage is to improve the communication between each other. The key factor here is to keep communication open and honest. Meaning each party must be able to voice their thoughts without judgment. Each party must also feel safe in talking about what they have on their minds.
Another related component to good communication is being able to listen. This means each party must be able to listen to the other talk without interrupting or inputting their own thoughts. At least not until what needs to be said has been spoken. Then the other party can begin to voice their thoughts.
As with all married couples, maintaining intimacy in the relationship is important as it gives an element of spark in the otherwise mundane married life. When couples date, they have that spark as the novelty is there. However, as both of them get married and the daily routines set in, the danger is that since they are so used to each other, there is no longer an attempt to keep the intimacy going.
Also related to keeping a relationship going is that there is not enough time spend with each other. As both are busy with their lives at work and social commitments, there is a danger of gradually drifting away from each other. So the next important thing you can do to maintain your marriage is to find time to do activities together. Be it going on a tour, watch a movie or even just a simple stroll in the park.
