A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union between two people. Whilst the wedding may occur in a church or other religious place the marriage is not complete until a legal document is signed by the bride, groom and witnesses.

Nowadays as the world shrinks it is much easier for couples to arrange a wedding in another country and have the guests travel to them with the honeymoon continuing without any further travel. The definition of a destination wedding is quite flexible as you don't actually have to leave your country for it to qualify, just so it isn't in your home town.
A weekend wedding is a wedding in which couples and their guests celebrate over the course of a weekend. Weddings that have a themed element can also be very successful and the activity can be either built into the day or over the course of a weekend. Lodging usually is at the same facility as the wedding and couples often host a Sunday brunch for the weekend's finale.
Internet weddings seem to be something that has come about recently and a number of people are now using this method to seal their vows. There are even guides for information on how to go about an internet wedding with information on people that can carry it out for you. An internet or online wedding can also refer to a situation where a couple may broadcast their wedding to friends and family in other parts of the world.
Local civil authority weddings are called civil weddings as they do not take place in a church and must be performed by a locally elected or appointed official. Although it may sound clinical, civil ceremonies usually make no reference to God. Many civil wedding ceremonies take place in local town or city halls or courthouses in judge's chambers.
