Although it may seem hard to believe, weddings are becoming more expensive each year; over 25 billion dollars is spent each year on weddings, with an average 20-25,000 spent on each. Just because a wedding is expensive does not mean it will be a success; deciding to have a cheap wedding does not mean it cannot be enjoyable for everyone. It just requires a little knowledge, imagination and clever ideas to reduce the huge amount that is spent; your special day may be more affordable than you think!
Low Cost Bridal Gown
Almost never considered are the costs associated with the hand made wedding dress; many brides sell their dress soon after they are married and this is a sensible way to reduce the cost. The huge cost of a new wedding dress cannot always be justified these days; many bridal shops carry a large number of previously owned dresses that can be hired or bought for considerably less than new.
The Wedding Reception
The largest single cost is that of the wedding reception but even here savings are possible; with an average of just under two hundred guests attending it is easy to see how you can reduce the financial burden for your cheap wedding. Reducing the number of people who attend, including distant relatives or friends you haven't been in contact with for years, will help enormously; you can even carry out some of the catering yourself and have a hot and cold buffet style meal instead of a four courses.
The venue of the wedding reception can also be somewhere less expensive than the local golf club or hotel; using a small club for example will mean the drinks bill is less by only catering for wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar.
Images of the Wedding
The obvious choice is to shop around for the best rates, but look at hiring the photographer just for the service; ask family members and friends to take photos of the reception - most will be more than happy to do this. You could, if you are brave, dispense with the services of a photographer completely; a friend or relative who is a keen photographer might be happy to do this for you!

If you're on a budget and looking for less expensive wedding stationery items, then you might like to consider print-at-home stationery; there are many online stationers that will offer this service free of charge and all you pay for is the paper and envelopes. Many people are now competent enough to produce near professional quality work; problems and errors can be corrected quickly without regular visits to the printers.
Wedding Floral Arrangements
Flowers can be another expensive outlay especially with the alternatives on offer; why not buy wholesale flowers, or pick flowers from your garden and buy plain gold or white gold bands as these are the least costly. There is no reason why a friend or relative can't bake the wedding cake; this will save more money plus the traditional fruit cake does not have to be used as there are many other fillings that people enjoy.
Transportation for the Wedding Day
A friend's car could be used as the transportation to the ceremony to make further savings; many have very nice cars and it makes a pleasant change.
Measures like this could mean that the savings made on a cheap wedding can be invested in a new home; something much longer lasting.
